The compound occurs as white, off-white to light-grey powder (solid). 4,4-(Hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphenol has a melting point of 160-163 В°C, a flash point of over 100В°C and a boiling point of 400В°C. The product is prepared from hexafluoropropanone-2 and phenol. Moreover, 4,4-(Hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphenol can be produced by the reaction of phenol and a fluorinated precursor.

The product is used in the synthesis polyimides, polycarbonates, polyamides, etc. as a monomer. Moreover, 4,4-(Hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphenol is employed to cure or cross-link fluorocarbon elastomers.
