BEIJING- January 29th, 2012 – Low-E Glass, despite the general deceleration in residential and commercial construction, has experienced growth above 20% according to a report published by GCiS China Strategic Research. Primary reasons for the robust growth include the growing proportion of new projects which will use hollow glass, a processed form of low-e glass, as well as a current low-utilization rate.

Although downstream market pushes towards more green construction methods, upstream suppliers are still burdened by overcapacity, leading many in the industry to believe prices will continue to fall or remain the same. Despite such pressure on margins, suppliers have a positive assessment of the future considering the current low utilization rate of Low-E Glass in China’s buildings, and the government support for green building technologies.

The report also takes analyzes different sectors of the Low-E market, namely, the soft and hard coating sectors. Due to the adoption of hollow glass -- which primarily uses soft coating technologies-- the soft coating market is expected to expand faster.
