Forecasts on Poland's economic indicators register a decline of gross domestic product (GDP) growth to 4.8% in 2008. The Gdansk Institute for Market Economics (IBnGR) expects that in 2009 the Polish economy will grow 2.0%, while in 2010 the GDP is to rise to 3.0%.

The real estate market developed rapidly following the country's EU accession in 2004 and the economic growth over the last two years. Property prices in Poland's largest cities stabilised in 2007 after a significant hike in 2006. The country is extremely popular among the British and Spanish, who invest actively in the market. For 2006, between 15% and 20% of the newly built flats in the country were purchased with foreign capital due to the high return on investment.

Increasing land prices and the labour shortage in the construction sector pushed the prices of new buildings up. The cost for building one sq m climbed by 33% in 2006, compared to the previous year when it stood at some PLN 3,000.
