This latest update in this series of reports provides a comprehensive overview of the trends which were on show at the edition of Premi?re Vision Fabrics for the spring/summer 2021 season. Overall, the atmosphere at the European fabric fairs for spring/summer 2021 was overshadowed by economic uncertainties affecting the whole of the textile and fashion industry, as well as the outbreak of COVID-19. However, mills are continuing to innovate, and the use of environmentally sustainable fibres and processes is a key area of focus. Natural fibres are a prominent feature of fabrics for spring/summer 2021, and cotton, linen and hemp are especially important. Overall, fabrics for the season are light and airy, and transparency is key. Many fabrics have a fluid quality which is achieved through the use of man-made cellulosic fibres. Texture is important, and several fabrics feature wrinkling, fil coup? fringe effects, seersucker effects or wavy effects. Prints and jacquards are also important, and motifs are generally large or medium in terms of scale. Several motifs have an organic quality, and include painterly florals and hand drawn geometric designs.
