Reliance Petroleum to start up new polypropylene plant after Feb
// 06.01.2009
India's Reliance Petroleum Limited plans to start up a 900,000 mt/year polypropylene plant at its newly commissioned 580,000 b/d Jamnagar refinery in Gujarat after February, a source close to the company said late Monday.
"The plant has not started yet but it could be anytime after February," the source said.
A spokesman for RPL last week declined to comment on plans for the start-up of the polypropylene unit, which was earlier expected to coincide with the refinery coming on stream.
The export-oriented refinery was commissioned on December 25, ending industry speculation that RPL might delay start-up to early this year in view of the ongoing slump in refining margins and a bleak outlook for product export markets.
The PP plant will take propylene feedstock from the new refinery.
RPL's parent Reliance Industries Limited operates a 1 million mt/year polypropylene plant at an older, 660,000 b/d refinery, also at Jamnagar.
